Talented Young Muscians
The Band has grown from a small ensemble of wind players who attended Highbury Junior School in Portsmouth to their current status as one of the most accomplished symphonic youth wind bands in Hampshire, England with members drawn from a number of schools and colleges in South East Hampshire.Charity Fund-Raising
We helped raise over £1100 for the Lord Mayor's Appeal for equipment for Riding for the Disabled. A similar amount was raised for The Inner Wheel of Cosham at a concert in aid of two local charities. A donation of £522 was made to The Lord Mayor's Spectrum Appeal, in aid of Bliss, The Premature Baby Unit, and Stroke Care. A concert for the BHF Emma Carter Appeal raised £800
New Members
We are always pleased to hear from young musicans who would like to join HAB.
The band is a superb opportunity for players to deveop their skills and members find it a great to meet with other young people - often from different schools and backgrounds.
Rehersals are on Wednesday evenings at Fort Widley and we perform several concerts a year - usually raising money for charity and with different 'guests' who complement the music of HAB. If you'd like to find out more - please email the Band Manager, Alistair Lane
Extensive Repitoire
The Band has travelled extensively throughout Europe, representing the city during civic events in the twin cities of Duisburg (1980 and 2000) and Caen (1992), as well as visiting Canada (1996) and have recently returned from Germany where they played several concerts with Duisburg's NMKS Band. In October 2001 we were hosts to our friends from Duisburg on their visit to Portsmouth
In 2002 we played at Gunwharf Quays for the Golden Jubilee visit by Her Majesty the Queen, and in the summer we played 3 open air concerts during a tour of The Rhineland and the Black Forest in Germany.
The Band's aim is to bring music into the community and to raise money for charity - well over £65,000 has been raised since its founding in 1976.
